Mexico’s Killing Fields

Why is my Chihuahua so protective with newborns and babies?

If anyone is holding a baby(especially newborns) my chihuahua will protect the baby. If an older child would approach the baby and try to touch the baby she will atack them(bite and growl). She did have puppies about five years ago. Why does she feel a need to protect them?

She’s not "protecting" them…she’s trying to "claim" them because she believes she’s dominant over the people holding/touching them.

In layman’s terms, she’s an ill-mannered little PITA that needs to learn what is/is not acceptable in your household.

NO dog should be allowed to get away with attacking a human being welcomed into your home.

She isn’t trying to protect them…she’s displaying dominant behaviour. You have to stop this behaviour and not allow her to do this. You have to establish that you are the dominant one in the household and this little dog has no right to get upset about anyone touching anyone or anything.

This behaviour will just get worse if not corrected.
