In which economic region would u find maquiladoras?
pls answer asap
Maquiladoras are in Tijuana (U.S.–Mexico border). Made up of really poor people who have no choice but to do the awful work so that they can support their family. They are Mexican woman who work in assembly plants.

What was your strategy to avoid economic collapse?
When the real estate market started to collapse I switched investment strategies. I invested in a hedge fund that targeted down markets and began buying puts on vulnerable stocks. I bought two small manufacturing companies that had viable products sold to American suppliers but had high operating costs at half of pre-downturn price. I fired all the workers and set up a Maquiladora in Sonora Mexico with a Mexican Partner. Our labor costs are next to nothing and the plant generated a profit in its first month. Once the company is headquartered in Dubai US taxes and costs will be avoided. God bless America.
You still have your sueter?

Whats your favorite song that deals/dealt with an issue in the world?
any type of issue……pollution, contraception, war, etc….
get me?
Mine is: At The Drive-In - Invalid Litter Dept.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wR1MVdDmUA
"The song’s lyrics and music video deal with the Juárez murders, a series of rapes and murders in Cd. Juárez of young women who worked in factories called maquiladoras. Cd. Juárez is located just across the U.S.-Mexican border from El Paso, Texas, ATDI’s home town. The song explicitly criticizes the federales, or Mexican police, for their lack of response to these cases." (copy & pasted from wikipedia lol)
Whats yours?

How can anybody say we don’t need a fence after this Seventeen killed in Mexico drug battle near U.S.?
TIJUANA, Mexico (Reuters) - Seventeen Mexican drug gang members were killed near the U.S. border on Saturday, their bodies scattered along a road after one of the deadliest shootouts in Mexico’s three-year narco-war.
Rival factions of the Arellano Felix drug cartel in Tijuana on the Mexico-California border battled each other with rifles and machine guns in the early hours of the morning, police said.
Fourteen bodies were lying in pools of blood on a road near assembly-for-export maquiladora plants on the city’s eastern limits. The corpses were surrounded by hundreds of bullet casings and many of their faces were destroyed.
The 15th body was found nearby. Two more men died in hospital on Saturday evening, police said.
Six men were wounded and another six were arrested, but some gang members are thought to have escaped.
Two of the dead were believed to be senior hitmen for the Arellano Felix cartel and were identified by large gold rings on their fingers. The rings carried the icon of Saint Death, a ghoulish figure that gangsters believe protects them, police said.
"Today shows we are facing a terrible war never seen before on the (U.S.-Mexico) border," Baja California Attorney General Rommel Moreno told a news conference.
Some 190 people have been killed in Tijuana so far this year. In 2007, there were more than 2,500 drug killings across Mexico and there have been more than 900 this year.
Police cordoned off the surrounding roads, forcing workers at a nearby maquiladora to walk through the crime scene to get to work.
"Another shootout," said a woman who gave her name only as Lisa. "There are just too many. We are so afraid."

We need some serious law enforcement - border patrol, fence, land mines, and bounty’s -
we have got to get some National Guard action on our borders to the north and south and some serious employer jail time!

Did you know this?
In 2005, Mexicans in the United States remitted some $20 billion home. That’s 3% of Mexico’s entire national income.
Remittances have surpassed tourism, oil, and the maquiladora assembly industry to emerge as the country’s top single source of foreign exchange. For the 6% of Mexican households that receive remittances, these funds can mean the difference between extreme poverty and an income roughly in line with the Mexican average.
Today, almost one-fifth of all living Mexican-born people now make their homes in the United States. You have to go back to the Irish potato famine to find a parallel. But Mexico is not suffering famine: It is suffering from a comprehensive failure of political and economic leadership.
That’s why the Western Union office is always crowded.

Corruption and violations against workers are being denounced for 40 workers who were fired from the Cole & Ashcroft assembly plant, and they have been demonstrating since yesterday precisely outside the companie’s installations in the town of Los Guerra… facing the denial of representatives of the company… to have a dialogue with the legal representative of the workers, which provoked an action of rants and allusive signs/posters… The gift-wrap assembly plant… satisfied a special production demand by deceiving workers to work extra time… once the order was filled, they were fired without receiving just compensation… The engineer, Eduardo Villalón, representative and manager of Cole & Ashcroft Co. told the workers that if they wanted to make demonstrations… well then, to do so, that he didn’t care… the company representatives turned down an interview with EL MAÑANA (The Tomorrow) of Reynosa…

can someone help me summarize this? i dont really know english and i need someone to help me sommarize this?
The perception of the gang problem in Mexico has not reached the level of hysteria seen in some Central American countries, though a growing fear of the maras is brewing. While there are gangs, their sphere of influence seems linked to the numerous operational drug cartels and other organized crime organizations. Mexico, in addition, has two cause-phenomena that are not found in the other countries: (1) Central American gang members view Mexico’s southern border as an opportunity to become involved in the trafficking of drugs, weapons, and humans as they flow north and south; and (2) gangs on the northern border are intergenerational. Gang activity on the northern border is related to drug cartels; narco-trafficking; trafficking of people, weapons, and other illegal substances; the maquiladora (assembly plant) industry; lack of sufficient educational opportunities for many children of maquiladora employees; substance abuse among youths; dysfunctional families; and minimal parental supervision. Another factor that contributes to the growth of youth gang members in the northern border area is the movement of individual youths attempting to join relatives in the United States. The United States deports more people to Mexico than to any other country in the world. In FY 2004 the U.S. sent 64,942 criminal and 49,454 non-criminal deportees to Mexico
Here is my take on this, but if it would be easier you can go to http://www.freetranslation.com/ and under the free translation you can change it to Translate from English to [Whatever language you speak] and copy and paste the text above into your own language. Anyway here is what I get from the text……………..Basically it is saying that Mexico has a growing gang problem, but it is not yet as bad as Central America is. However it is a growing concern. And it tells what factors are causing the growth of gang activity in Mexico. First, because Central American Gangs are looking for opportunities in Mexico and therefore need Mexican Gang Members to assist with their various crimes. Second it talks about intergenerational, presumably meaning that the ages of the gang members are varied and not just youth. 3rd it gives reasons why people are drawn to join the gangs as well as why the gangs are growing in the Northern Border.
It also tells what kind of activity is going on and where it is happening. So On the Southern Border you’ve got gangs who are dealing with Central American Gangs in an effort to traffic drugs, weapons and humans, and on the Northern Border you’ve got drug cartels; narco-trafficking; trafficking of people, weapons, and other illegal substances
