A Strange Thing Happened

About 15 years ago my family and traveled to Memphis, TN. While there I happened to look down at my father’s legs and for some reason I immediately thought that he probably had diabetes. It sounds crazy but just from the look of his legs I knew. There had been no test or diagnoses just my gut feeling.

Not surprisingly a few years later without the proper diet and nutrition as provided by the Medifast diet plan, he was officially diagnosed with the disease. What is strange is that this week while I was in church, I looked at my own arms and legs and thought I saw that which I saw 15 years before.

My Girl Scout Cop-out

So these seemingly innocent and sweet little girls donning green uniforms show up at my door, pushing my weakness…Thin Mints. I have dabbled in the land of the Samoas and the Tag-a-Longs are truly an addiction inspired creation. But, Thin Mints? I seriously have a ritual attached with these cookies as though I were mentally ill. I put the box in the freezer. Once I’ve opened the box to have the first taste, I remove the sleeves from the box and return them to the freezer. I chew the cookie until all of its chocolate and minty sensationalism has coated my teeth and just before the sugar starts rotting away my molars, I scarf down an entire pint of ice cold milk. That is just the first cookie. I always find that after GSC season, I start hunting for diets: fast diets that work I need to purge my system of the sinfulness. I find it akin to a baptismal rebirth. I start drinking copious amounts of water and exercising, but when those little pushers…er, girl scouts come a-calling… I don’t just fall off the wagon, I LEAP OFF with a gallon of milk in toe.
