What are the Nutritional Requirements for a pregnant Chihuahua?
We think our Chihuahua might be pregnant, she really is begging for our food, and we were wondering if it had something to do with her pregnancy. What does she need?
***Congrats on the Upcoming Litter!!!***
It’s best to feed her puppy food because of the extra calories & nutrience that she needs for her growing pups!
Iams & Eukanuba are good as well as Royal Canin…which has a puppy food specifically for toy breeds called Mini.

What should my puppy chihuahua be eating at her age?
My mom’s friend gave us a 2 month old chihuahua and I don’t know what to feed her. We bought her puppy food but she doesn’t eat it and we serve her warm milk and she drinks that, but I feel that she is too skinny and should gain a little more pounds. Does anyone have any suggestion to what I should give her to eat?
omg! noooo please don’t give her anymore cow’s milk. that will make her very very sick
you want to make sure she eats every 2 hours. chihuahua’s have a super quick metabolism and their blood sugar will drop if not properly fed
get some eukaneuba or bill jack food (dry) and soak it in warm water… they can’t chew hard food yet and canned food is unhealthy and crap.
another good food is rachel ray’s "nutrish" dog food for small dogs… either one will be fine but you need to soften it.
if you notice her shaking bad, or just acting lethargic or sleepy, give her some karo corn syrup. it’s good to have some on hand in case you ever need it. please show your mom this message so she can get the proper stuff!

What is causing my chihuahua to be lethargic?
This is the 4th time my 4 lb chihuahua has become lethargic. He is fine one min and the next, he can’t stand, eyes bug and ears pinned back. When I try to stand him up, his feet are spread and he is very unstable and can not seem to walk. When holding him or laying him down, his front legs are stiff. He also startles very easy. The first time this happen I took him to the emergency room. They gave him IV fluids and ran tests but found nothing. This cost a small fortune that I can not afford. I’m worried sick .
4 instances of the same thing and your vet doesn’t see a pattern!? Go back to your vet and ask him to rule out Epilepsy or other dieseases of the nervous system. Take a video of the next attack to show the vet. Ask for a second opinion if you aren’t getting anywhere.

How do i introduce my little chihuahua into a home with a cat?
I just got a baby girl chihuahua and i already have a small cat. The chihuahua is a lot smaller then the cat. How do I introduce the two so they can become friends?
My Chi’s grew up with 2 adult male cats. JUst let them meet and keep an eye on them for a while. You’ll know if there’s an issue. It’ll depend on the cat. They’ll probably end up playing together within the hour. They’ll either ignore each other or they’ll follow each other around and sleep together sometimes and play together.

How can I get my chihuahua to eat this food?
I recently took my dog to the vet, because of a loss of appetite. My vet prescribed IVD Duck Formula Canned Food, to make it easier on his digestive system. He also told me to feed him Royal Canin 28 Mini Chihuahua dry food, which he loves. The problem is, he won’t touch the soft food. Would it help to mix the dry and the wet together? What can I do to get him to eat at least some of the wet food?
the trick to get a dog to switch foods is to slowly switch foods start off slowly adding more wet food in with the orignal not giving more food than you are told to eventually you will get to the point where you are just feeding him wet food best of luck!!!!!

How can i make my chihuahua more friendly and less agressive toward me and other people and animals?
I have a 2 year old chihuahua he is realy active and fun. But lets say i try to take one of his toys or if he has something in his mouth that he shouldnt have everytime i try to take it he will growl at me and try to bite me. He is also that way with other people. Please help and tell me what to do to calm his agression down and be more friendly.
Agression, especailly human agression (HA) is a hard one. It should not be tolerated, wether the dog is small or large. I recommend talking to a behaviorist and trainer, if it is a workable problem they will be able to help you with it. If the problem is NOT workable (the behaviorist will be able to determine this) then the dog needs to be put down.

Why is my Chihuahua so protective with newborns and babies?
If anyone is holding a baby(especially newborns) my chihuahua will protect the baby. If an older child would approach the baby and try to touch the baby she will atack them(bite and growl). She did have puppies about five years ago. Why does she feel a need to protect them?
She’s not "protecting" them…she’s trying to "claim" them because she believes she’s dominant over the people holding/touching them.
In layman’s terms, she’s an ill-mannered little PITA that needs to learn what is/is not acceptable in your household.
NO dog should be allowed to get away with attacking a human being welcomed into your home.

What would cause a Chihuahua puppy to lose hair above his eyes and what is the cure?
I have a male Chihuahua puppy who is nine to twelve weeks old. The hair above his eyes seems to be growing sparse and I am wondering what the cause and the cure for this are. I m thinking it is the canine version of cradle cap but I am not sure. Please help.
its probably mange.. hairloss sometimes begins around the eyes.
There’s no such thing as as "cradle cap" for puppies. Cradle cap isnt any form of hair loss anyways.. cradle cap is the dead "newborn" skin that sloughs off an infant’s scalp.
The cure is a trip to the vet to get proper diagnosis and treatment.

How can you train a chihuahua to stop having accidents in the house?
We are the 3rd. owner of this chihuahua and for the most part he is house broken, but sometimes when we’re not looking he will pee or poop in the other room. when we put him outside in a kennel for the night he won’t go until he is let out……He is a male, not neutered. He is a breeding dog. But in order to keep him we need to brake him og his bad habbit. Help if you know please.
When you’re home and he’s not kenneled, you should keep him with you. Don’t allow him in the other room by himself. Being the third home, it’s possible that his bad habits were the result of housebreaking not being reinforced in his previous home. Create a schedule. Kennel at night, potty in the morning, potty every two hours out of the kennel and don’t let him go off by himself.
Small dogs are often more difficult to house break and the more intelligent and willful the dog, the more difficult it is. Chihuahua can be difficult to train in general. Consider puppy class or doggy good-citizen classes to establish the relationship between you and the dog.
I understand that many people get these dogs as investments hoping to make money on stud fees and/or litter sales. I hope that you will be a responsible breeder culling for defects and breeding for temper in addition to breed standard.
