Mexico’s Killing Fields

What is a interesting current event taking place in mexico that connects back to early spanish conquest?

In other words, what social issues of today in Mexico could be traced back to the social issues of mexico in the 1500’s. (social organization etc)

thanks

Tough question. What comes to my mind is that the Spanish conquistadores came into a land with a highly developed civilization, completely destroyed that civilization, their government, culture, and religion. They forced the people tp give up their culture, language and religion. They created a country of a few rich land owners and millions of poor people. Mexico just became independent of Spain 200 years ago.and still suffers the "growing pains" of becoming an independent nation and correcting the wrongs of the past. The vast gulf between rich and poor is still present in many ways. The corrupt Napoleonic "justice" system is still used. Political parties and holders of public office are often controlled by the wealthy descendants of the rich land owners of the past.

How to travel through Italy for 3 weeks and stay with people in homes or stay in convents?

I am an American citizen in my 50’s and want to spend 3-6 weeks in Italy. While there I would like to stay with residents in their homes or possibly in convents. I know such spaces are available but don’t know where to look on he Internet. I am also interested in making contact (prior to my arrival) with local residents in the communities where i travel. Does anyone have any suggestions for websites? I am not looking for a dating situation - just new friends.

Thanks for your help.

http://www.couchsurfing.org/ is a site where you might be able to find homestays. Agriturismi are farms that operate small inns: http://www.agriturist.it/ or there are many B&Bs here: http://www.bed-and-breakfast.it/

For monastery/convent stays, you can try these sites: http://www.monasterystays.com/ or
http://www.go-to-italy.com/pag.aspx?ln=en&id=3
or this one in Rome, you can write to: Casa D’Accoglienza S. Spirito, Suore Francescane dell’Addolorata Borgo S. Spirito 41, 00193 Rome

Has anyone ever been to La Estacion in Cuernavaca, Mexico?

The club or the neighborhood

La estacion used to be a train station in cuernavaca just in the corner where Av. Plan de Ayala becomes Vicente Guerrero, the actual station was a few meters forward in the direction of Reforma, just behind a bunch of tall trees,

the neighborhood is a poor one where people lived in old train wagons.

The station it self its a typical train station of the 19th century

If I go to Machu Picchu in March, are the mountain roads safe during the rainy season?

I know that roads in the Andes are not for the feint of heart in any month.

Also, if I do not plan to hike the Inca trail can I make this trip with no reservations? I would like to spend 2 nights in Aguascalientes so that I have the full day at Machu Picchu.

In Cusco there are many tour agencies. If you can’t walk it you can always take the train. Buy your ticket at least a day before you go. No problem staying 2 days in Aguas Calientes. hiking and the train are the only ways to get there.

How old should a male chihuahua be to get fixed?

Hi,
I have a 5 month old male chihuahua. I was wondering how old should a male dog be to get fixed/sprayed. Our new vet is very expensive so I was wondering the average price it would cost for the puppy to get fixed too.

Most vets say between 4-6 months but honestly you can get it done earlier. The humane society gets their puppies spayed and neutered at two months. So yes, most people say 4-6 months. Now is the time to do it. Price just depends on each vet. Expect maybe $100-200. Call your vet and ask.
